Nuclear Medicine and Cyclotron Center

The Royal Medical Services - King Hamad University Hospital offers a Nuclear Medicine and Cyclotron Center. It was inaugurated by His Excellency Field Marshal Sheikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander of the Bahrain Defense Force. The center features comprehensive facilities, advanced medical equipment, and a qualified staff to produce positron-emitting radiopharmaceuticals using a cyclotron. This operation is overseen by a specialized team accredited in European Good Manufacturing Practices for the production of radiopharmaceuticals.
75% of cancer patients, 20% of heart patients, and 5% of neurological patients benefit from the use of radioactive materials. Nuclear medicine is utilized for treating thyroid diseases, malignant tumors, liver tumors, blood disorders such as lymphomas, pain relief for bone diseases, and for treating benign joint inflammations.
Additionally, the center is equipped with two nuclear imaging machines (integrated with CT and MRI), PET/CT and PET/MRI the first of their kind in Bahrain and the region, designed to locate diseases. These machines are beneficial for patients with kidney and heart conditions, infections, neurological disorders, intestinal obstructions, gastrointestinal bleeding, and more.
The center also houses a SPECT/CT machine, one of the latest diagnostic devices. It serves 32 specialized clinics and undergoes daily and periodic testing to ensure the quality and safety of the services provided to patients.
