Prof. Haya Mohammed Alkhayyat is the Head of the Pediatric Department and Consultant Pediatrician and Pediatric Endocrinologist at the Military Hospital, Royal Medical Services. She also serves as a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland Medical University of Bahrain (RCSI-MUB). Prof. Haya has an extensive background in pediatric medicine, having earned her Doctor of Medicine from the Arabian Gulf University in 1994. Following her internship at Military Hospital, she joined the Pediatric Department in 1995, obtaining a Diploma in Child Health from the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland. Her professional journey continued with a Membership from the Royal College of Pediatric and Child Health (MRCPCH) in the UK and the A rab Board in Pediatrics in 2004. She further specialized in Pediatric Endocrinology at Great Ormond Street Hospital, University College London, where she completed a Clinical Fellowship.

Innovative Procedures and Advanced Technology

Prof. Haya is a pioneer in the treatment of rare pediatric endocrine disorders, notably initiating Leptin hormone replacement therapy for Congenital Generalized Lipodystrophy (CGL) in Bahrain in 2019.

Clinic Expert

This therapy has shown remarkable success in improving glucose control and overall health for affected children. The treatment was subsequently extended to a second patient, a sibling with the same rare disorder, contributing significantly to the understanding and management of this condition. Prof. Haya ’s work in CGL, with an estimated global prevalence of 1 in 10 million, is a groundbreaking achievement, marking a major advancement in pediatric endocrine care in Bahrain.
