Radiation therapy is an integral part of multimodality cancer treatment, treating areas affected with cancer using ionizing radiation. Radiotherapy treatment involves series of fractionated treatments, often extending over several weeks, using highly sophisticated equipment. It requires a thorough initial planning as well as constant patient care and monitoring throughout the treatment course. The department of Radiation Oncology at Bahrain Oncology Centre is run by a professional multidisciplinary team comprising of Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physicists and Dosimetrists, Radiotherapists and Radiotherapy Nurses. All the members of the radiation Oncology team, participate in delivering high precision and quality treatments.

The department has been designated as Reference center for the region from ELEKTATM and is equipped with:

Advanced Linear accelerators, Versa HD and Exactractm dynamic which has Surface Tracking combined with Thermal Imaging along with Stereoscopic X-ray intrafraction monitoring for Stereotactic Radiotherapy.

MRI on the LINAC adds a tremendous advantage in directing the treatment accurately through the freedom of monitoring the tumor position and normal organ positions at very high resolutions. It gives you the ability to adapt the treatment for each individual session based on changes in the shape and location of the tumor, as well as changes in the adjacent normal anatomy. This provision makes the treatment more precise and safer.
